Here’s some incredible news that will definitely energize fans of Pixar: Officially, The Incredibles are coming back. With the news that Incredibles 3 is presently in development, Pixar’s original family is returning to the big screen for a third round of bravery, as confirmed at Disney’s D23 Expo. Brad Bird, the director of Incredibles 2 (2018) and The Incredibles (2004), is back on board and hard at work on Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl’s upcoming family film.
It sounds like it’s very early days on the picture right now, so anticipate it to be a good several years before it hits the big screen. Pixar president Pete Docter made the announcement, but he didn’t share many information. (Dash, are you certain you can’t hurry it up?) But like Toy Story and Cars, Pixar is working on another three-film plus series. It’s true, it’s happening, and development is already under way.
But fear not—if the announcement of new Incredibles and Toy Story 5 details gets you yearning for more Pixar original films, don’t worry. The studio revealed another new original film at D23, Hoppers, in which animal-loving girl Mabel utilizes cutting-edge technology to translate her mind into… a robotic beaver. The alien abduction thriller Elio will be released in theaters next year. Thus, it’s as unique as an original film gets. Jon Hamm, Bobby Moynihan, and Piper Curda are among the voices in that film, which is directed by Daniel Chong.
Not to mention Incredibles 2’s box office gross of over $1.2 billion, Inside Out 2’s enormous success makes additional sequels a foregone conclusion. But perhaps, the upcoming years will see a bountiful harvest of Pixar classics as well as some fresh ideas.
