The highly anticipated sequel Moana 2 trailer introduces a supernatural storm to Motunui.

Moana 2 has a brand-new trailer, so grab your boat, your oar, and your emotional support pig. The news that Disney’s long-running streaming series Moana had instead evolved into a theatrical follow-up to the 2016 adventure broke earlier this year. Not only did Auli’i Cravalho reprise her role as the leader and guide of her people, but she also brought back The Rock’s shape-shifting, semi-demi-god Maui. The epic full trailer for the sequel, which takes place three years after the events of the first movie and features Moana setting out on a mission to reconnect additional islanders who have been estranged from their community for a long time, was presented by the studio at the D23 Expo in Anaheim. She will need a specific demigod of the land and sea by her side to get past the horrific purple storm that is about to wreak devastation. Watch the trailer by clicking here:

This is an additional optimistic glimpse at the unexpected follow-up, which comes after the positive-only teaser released earlier this year. Additionally, there is a lot of new information to process, chief among them being that Moana is now Simea’s older sister. Maui is missing Te Kā and is wishing for the days of stormy villain. Furthermore, it is evident that Moana is really committed to fulfilling her role as leader and expanding Motunui’s horizons on land and at sea. In addition, the Kakamora, those deadly coconut pirates, have returned and are prepared to wreak more mayhem a la Mad Max. While Lin-Manuel Miranda isn’t back on song duties this time (Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa’i are still involved, with Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear stepping in), the sequel is directed by David Derrick Jr. for the first time. A new song performed live on the D23 stage by Cravalho herself sounded very much in keeping with the music from the first film.

There’s not much more to wait: Moana 2 will be on movie screens on November 27. It’s practically here, at the brink of the sky.
