Dominic Sessa has not been short of acting roles after his big break courtesy to The Holdovers. He appears in the cast of Oh. What, a holiday-themed comedic drama. Fun., the recently released sequel Now You See Me 3, and the true story Tow. And he’s on board to play one of the most important characters in the food industry: Anthony Bourdain, in the upcoming biopic Tony.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the renowned chef, writer, and presenter gained experience in the cutthroat Manhattan restaurant business, eventually rising to the position of Executive Chef at the upscale Brasserie Les Halles.
However, it was his articles about the seedy underbelly of food destinations that made him famous; after they were published in The New Yorker, he shot to fame in the food world thanks to his straight-talking approach to the business.
After that, he started a career in broadcasting, hosting a number of programs, the most well-known of which was Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations. However, Bourdain struggled with drugs and psychological troubles until taking his own life in 2018.
Deadline’s report makes no mention of the period in Bourdain’s life that the new movie would focus on, but Sessa’s casting choice would seem to suggest his early years. Tony is a creation of Star Thrower, a production company that supported King Richard and gave Will Smith an Oscar. Matt Johnson, the director of Blackberry, has agreed to make it and will be working from a script written by Todd Bartels and Lou Howe.
Given that A24 has expressed interest in purchasing this specific bundle, it might create something truly exceptional.
