Snow White is one of the most iconic characters in the Disney canon. The 1937 classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the studio’s first motion picture, essentially creating the animation genre and starting a history that continues to this day, almost a century later. Therefore, it’s huge news that Disney will be releasing a new live-action version of the fairytale the following year. The film is called Snow White, and it stars Rachel Zegler as the original Disney heroine and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Here is the first official trailer, which was unveiled at the D23 Expo:
Marc Webb, the director of the Amazing Spider-Man and 500 Days of Summer films, is behind this adaptation. Although the teaser mostly focuses on emulating scenes and shots from the 1937 original (that eerie tree looks exactly like it belongs there), there will also be some new content. Alongside beloved hits like “Heigh-Ho” and “Whistle While You Work,” which is heavily featured in this teaser, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul have composed new songs. The D23 audience saw the entire “Whistle While You Work” scene.
There may never have been a tougher hurdle for a Disney live-action adaptation, but Webb’s dynamic directing style might work well for a movie-musical, Zegler is unstoppable in musical mode, and Gal Gadot looks perfect in that role. In March 2025, when Snow White makes her theatrical debut, we’ll find out if she’s really the fairest of them all or just a poisoned apple.
