It’s amazing to think that nearly three years have passed when we first announced that Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista, co-stars of Dune and See, will be collaborating on the buddy comedy The Wrecking Crew. But now, at last, there’s a thrilling new update on the film, which began with a tweet (see below). As to the report by The Wrap, Claes Bang, star of Bad Sisters and The New Look, has been cast as the primary antagonist in the film directed by Ángel Manuel Soto (Blue Beetle).
The showrunner for Momoa and Bautista’s See Season 2 Jonathan Tropper, who just signed on to write Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars film and Chris Hemsworth’s Apple sci-fi The Corsair Code, wrote the script for this one before the WGA strikes last year. Though there are still a lot of unanswered questions around the movie, Bautista and Momoa are expected to return to their dysfunctional brotherly relationship from their roles as Edo and Baba Voss in See, albeit with some additional jokes thrown in. The Wrap has released the official synopsis, which reads as follows: “[The Wrecking Crew] follows two half-brothers — one a disciplined Navy SEAL (Bautista) and the other a loose cannon cop (Momoa). They had to cooperate in order to discover the plot behind their father’s murder in Hawaii, after maybe twenty years of animosity.”
Bang’s role in all of this is still unknown, but since he plays the antagonist, it seems to reason that the Danish actor would have some knowledge of Momoa and Bautista’s father’s death. Regardless of how this one turns out in the end, what matters most is that we will see it, which wasn’t always guaranteed considering how little information has been released about the film since Amazon MGM was acquired three years ago. Will the box office be dominated by The Wrecking Crew? Or will it wind up being somewhat of a demolition project? Time will tell. However, with Momoa and Bautista taking center stage and Bang exploding, you can be sure we’ll be there to find out on opening day, whenever that may be.
